A leading international manufacturer of convenience foods supplies a wide range of chilled and frozen foods to some of the most successful retail and food service customers in the United Kingdom and United States. With numerous sites across the UK, their depot local to our Leeds office approached us to help them to source high calibre Forklift Truck Drivers.
The company had historically used one sole supplier from an onsite agency provider. However, as they headed towards their seasonal peak period, their supplier was struggling to find them Fork Lift Truck Drivers.
This was having a knock-on effect on their operation at a time when they couldn’t afford to be short staffed. The site received authorisation that they could look outside of their agreed PSL for a local provider to support them through this busy period and the Site Manager Contacted Primestaff through recommendation.
After initial contact was made, the first step for our team was to gather further details about the company’s operation, their current recruitment needs and gain an understanding as to why they were seeking a new supplier. We did this by visiting the site where we could discuss how to address and resolve the issues they were encountering with their existing agency.
Audits and Accreditations
After gathering an understanding on the type of workers required for their operation, a recruitment process in branch was kick-started to gain a pool of qualified, experienced Fork Lift Truck Operatives. In order to provide the site with such candidates, Primestaff had to undergo a series of checks and audits.
As members of GLAA and Sedex, we met the requirements of the client, and the branch audit was passed and we were ready to supply.
Full Recruitment & Induction Process
Our Consultants in branch carried out the full recruitment process from advertising, resourcing, short-listing, ID and licence checking. From here, full inductions were carried out either on site or in branch; candidate induction videos and other details about their operation were shared prior to the candidates commencing work.
Once we had started to supply FLT Operatives to the site, we were quickly approached by the packing department to see if we were able to help in this additional section of the business, which used a much higher volume of temporary staff and who were also being let down by their current provider.
Within two months, we were supplying 20 temps to site daily and receiving great feedback on our ‘around the clock’ dedicated service.
“It became apparent that our existing provider was finding it tough to source the calibre of FLT Drivers that we required. After giving them some time to get it right, I took the decision to bring Primestaff in as an alternative to see if an improvement in quality could be found.
I wish I had taken that decision sooner. Not only did they source FLT Drivers specifically for our production facility, but they did it with very little notice. So impressed was I with the level of service that I started to engage them again in the provision of production personnel. Again, this proved to be a success.
They were attentive taking the time to come to our facility to conduct inductions having already completed the majority of the paperwork in their own office. They were contactable 24 hours a day and were always quick to respond to any query that my team or the temporary workforce had.”
